About Bean

In 2013, I was overweight, unhappy and unhealthy. A colleague suggested I enter the Edinburgh Kiltwalk with her as a goal to get more active. Little did she know that she’d started a process that has changed me and my life completely. Along with Lesley, Hilary and Helen, I completed the 26.2 mile Kiltwalk in 7hrs40mins. And then set myself my next challenge: running 26.2 miles.

Having never been able to run the length of myself, I knew I’d need a scary goal. So I registered for the 2014 Edinburgh Marathon. And I bloody finished it. It took over 5:30mins but I did it and I wanted to keep pushing myself.

In 2015, I became a middle distance Triathlete, completing the Aberfeldy Middle Distance triathlon in 6hrs46mins. I loved every second of that day. It was truly exhilarating.

2016 has been a pretty spectacular year as well with my first London marathon and a 5000m open water swim!

My first “virtual” run for charity: The Gotham 10k, The 2016 London Marathon (with a 40minute PB), 7.5 Mile Dunblane Road Race, Bannockburn 10k, Benarty 4mile Trail Race, Spartan Sprint OCR, Great Scottish Swim 5000m, Scottish Half Marathon (10minute PB) MoRun 10k and the Pitreavie Jingle Bell 5k! Pretty packed year.

2017 is set to be my prep year for my first full distance tri in 2018. With VLM2017 and a 10,000m swim, it’s looking like a busy year of pushing myself to go a long way!
